Amid a number of high-stakes elections to be held around the world this year, the East European nation of Belarus on Sunday offered an alternative to the unpredictability of democracy: a vote for Parliament without a single candidate critical of the country’s despotic leader. When the two founders of the renowned Belarus Free Theater claimed political asylum in Britain in 2011, they found themselves homeless, with few possessions and facing a bureaucratic labyrinth before they could work. Twelve years later, the company’s founders, Natalia Kaliada and Nicolai Khalezin, are using that experience to help other artists fleeing political repression. When he finally emerged for a five-minute televised speech on Monday night, the Russian leader skirted a host of questions to insist that the Russian government was presenting a united front to all threats. And in a grandly choreographed outdoor appearance at the Kremlin, Mr. Putin descended a red-carpeted staircase to deliver a speech from a stage on the medieval-era Cathedral Square. Cei aproximativ 56 de mii de moldoveni care se află în Federația Rusă fără permis de ședere vor trebuie să revină în țară până în 15 iunie. Anunţul a fost făcut de prim-viceministrul Afacerilor Interne de la Moscova, în cadrul Adunării Interparlamentare a statelor CSI. La evenimentul care a avut loc la Sankt Petersburg, a fost prezent şi preşedintele Parlamentului, Zinaida Greceanîi, care se află într-o vizită oficială în Rusia. "Mulți cetățeni din țările CSI se află ilegal în țara mea. Potrivit autorităților ruse, în prezent, în Federaţia rusă se află ilegal peste 1.100.000 de cetăţeni ai statelor CSI.

☆ Canada impune noi sancțiuni Rusiei pentru anexarea Crimeei

Guvernul canadian a anunțat noi sancțiuni împotriva a doi oficiali și a patru companii din Rusia în semn de protest împotriva „anexării și ocupării ilegale” a Crimeei. Noile măsuri, anunțate în colaborare cu Australia, sunt în concordanţă cu cele adoptate recent de Uniunea Europeană şi Marea Britanie. Sancţiunile prevăd, în special, îngheţarea activelor şi interzicerea tranzacţiilor în Canada pentru oficialii ruşi Aleksandr Ganov şi Leonid Rişenkin, a anunţat ministerul de externe canadian într-un comunicat, potrivit Agerpres. Ganov conduce o companie ce operează servicii feroviare între Rusia şi Peninsula Crimeea, iar Rişenkin a supravegheat construirea unui pod de autostradă peste strâmtoarea Kerci. Săptămâna trecută, Ottawa a anunţat sancţiuni împotriva a nouă oficiali ruşi pentru a protesta împotriva tratamentului aplicat principalului opozant al preşedintelui Vladimir Putin, Aleksei Navalnîi.
